Case studies: * database anonymity * research ethics * wiretapping * surveillance * and others To support the stated objectives, the group will adhere to the following itinerary. * Prior to trip, students will be required to attend several class sessions (nine contacthours). [Addresses Objective 3] ** Approximately three class hours will be spent covering orientation information described in subsection 5 above. ** The remaining six hours will cover the preliminary study and discussion of information technology ethics and privacy issues. * Presentation of research methodology instruction will occur "just-in-time". The first topic will cover researching and writing a literature review. The subsequent assignment will cover narrowing the research topic and writing appropriate research questions along with an applicable literature review. [Addresses Objectives 1, 2] * The next lesson will cover some types of qualitative research such as interviewing. Students will then be assigned to conduct interviews about the research topic with local Augsburg students and other subjects and document their results. Those results will inform the next topic. The surveys will be used to collect data from U.S. and European students, faculty, information technology personnel related to the students' research questions. Delivery of content will include textbook readings, instructor lectures, and actual practice of several steps in the research process through assignments. * Objective 3: Students will become proficient in the understanding and discussion of information ethics and privacy issues from a European perspective. * Objective 4: Students will participate in local communities in order to develop research projects around information ethics and privacy.Objectives 3 will be implemented through pre-trip readings and discussions described in B. 1) above. Once in Augsburg, students will conduct research and interact with local communities to further their understanding of ethics and privacy in Europe.
